ABOUT US

ABOUT US

What Makes Our Wood Gear Clocks Superior?

Run Time:    The average run-time of our clocks is 4 days, (96 hours), between winding.

Accuracy:   Our clocks are far more than attractive. They are fully functional. They are accurate to within seconds per month.

Pallet Tip Design:    As illustrated to the right, our escapement mechanisms are designed with longevity in mind. While other wooden clock makers use a one piece 'escapement anchor,' we use a lead screw design. This enables worn 'escapement pallet tips' to be adjusted, rather than re-manufactured.

Winding Mechanism:    We've incorporated a "Huygens' Loop" mechanism into most of our clocks. This design maintains power during winding. It allows the weight to be hoisted in seconds. It also eliminates the need for a separate winding handle.

Use of bearings:    At Changing Times Clocks, we use ball bearings on the end of our arbors. This practice enables us to gain longer run times, and adds to the longevity of the clock-works mechanism. Many other wooden gear clock makers use either bushings, or graphite lubrication on the arbors.

Use of Stainless Steel Rods:    As illustrated to the right, our wooden gear arbors are reinforced with stainless steel rods. This allows for a smaller, more elegant arbor (shaft), that resists warping.

Aesthetic Appeal     is very important to us. We strive to keep our clocks well proportioned. We conceal screws, and other necessary structural supports whenever possible.

Warranty:    While decades of use are expected; our clocks are warranted to the original consumer or recipient to be free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 1 Year.

Changing Times - Wooden Gear Clocks

At Changing Times Clocks, you'll find a blend of traditional style and elegant design.  All of our wood gear clocks, maintain the age old, 'grandfather clock' form. We incorporate unique elements into every clock, making them truly 'one of a kind.' We are continually exploring new innovations in the areas of wood working, engineering, material composition, computer software, and many other fields. Thereby, we constantly enhance the aesthetic value and functionality of our wooden gear clocks.

In the early 1980’s, we built our first wood gear clock, based on a design of R.D. Thomas.  The result was functional, but less than we were hoping for. In the decades since, we have developed reliable systems to bring you a truly unique, functional wood gear clock .

Please read below to learn about a few of the ways we are leading the field in innovation.
